Content &Introduction
As the most abundant protein in human, collagen serves as a scaffold of biological processes in extracellular connective matrix. Collagen has also been widely utilized as bioactive cell culture substrates in tissue engineering. Here, I approach biophysical and biomechanical properties of collagen in three aspects (1) computational design of specific heterotrimers; (2) morphological and rheological study of collagen higher-order assembly; (3) statistical mechanical modeling of collagen triple helix deformability. Insight gained from this study will lead to the improved molecular design of biomimetic smart materials.
