On March 25th, 2014, Jeff Chen, Director of department of physics, School of Science, University of Waterloo, came to visit our School of Science and had an informal discussion with Feng Qibo,Dean of School of Science and Prof. Ding Kejian, the Chinese manager of NMT project. Jeff Chen also met with the students of Nano materials and technology major together.
During the discussion, the two sides made further arrangement about teachers and curriculum arrangement of NMT projects related to department of physics of University of Waterloo, and fully expressed the confidence in making the NMT project a success. Then, Jeff Chen held a meeting with nanometer material and technology major students of 2013 grade. He made a brief introduction of University of Waterloo and faculty of science and emphatically explained the teaching and scientific research achievements of department of physics in recent years. Students are also encouraged and echoed Prof Jeff Chen’s humorous speech with warm applause.
Prof Jeff Chen’s research work involves forefront fields such as theoretical physics, chemical physics, biological physics, and high performance computing and so on. Hundreds of his academic papers were cited more than 2000 times by SCI.He hosted a number of Canada's national research fund projects and won the Ontario “provincial" award for outstanding scientific research. High-performance supercomputing center of University of Waterloo (Canada national projects) hosted by him made the hardware of the University of Waterloo leaps to the world's highest level.
